| My subject is light. It is light that I am trying to capture in any painting that I do, and it is always something about the light that draws me to start a painting. It may be the pattern of light that falls on an object that provides the basis for my painting, or it might be the color of that light, or it might be the entire atmosphere surrounding that which I have determined to paint. But it is really the light that concerns me and the total task at hand throughout my effort to create a painting is capturing light through the use of paint. So I may do a painting of something like a tree in a landscape, or a vase of flowers., but my subject is not the thing in the painting, my subject is the light on and around that thing. The “thing” is insignificant. Henry Hensche said, "Everything in light is beautiful." To the extent that art is the attempt to portray something beautiful, I attempt to do so by painting light.
